Welcome TWO our circus! Here's How We Celebrated Our Twins' 2nd Birthday
Today is the day! The sweet circus that I have been ring-leading is now finally TWO years old. This feels like a monumental age. They’re becoming more independent, they’re beginning to effectively communicate their needs with 2-4 word sentences, and we even recently started potty training them this week! So many changes. The only thing that HAS stayed the same in our house is that things keep changing. With all the constant changes and twin chaos, I’ve always referred to our family as a circus. So, a circus themed 2nd birthday seemed most authentic to our current lifestyle. Plus, both Joules and Ames love to “ROAR” when asked what a lion says. ;)
The twins’ actual birthday is October 24th, but we celebrated 5 days early so that we could get everyone together easily on the weekend. We didn’t have a big party this year because we were out of town on vacation until 2 days beforehand. That said, there was very little time for planning—so, we opted for just an intimate family-only gathering. A little different than last year’s big 1st birthday party with a royal theme, but still perfect nonetheless. And just for fun, here’s a photo comparison of this year versus last year. I mean, look at how much bigger than are now!
We had a fabulous cake made by Panini Bakery in Dallas—which is the same bakery that made the twins’ prince and princess themed cakes last year for their 1st birthday. Fun story - on the day of their 2nd birthday party, my mother was in charge of picking up the circus-themed cake. She got to the bakery and they were short-staffed. So, the cake wasn’t even ready! She had to wait there for someone to be able to finish it which made her miss the first 2 hours of the twins’ birthday party! Needless to say, we were thankful when she arrived at our house with the cake looking adorable.
You may have noticed we didn’t dress the kids up in costumes this year. I had every intention to put them in a circus animal costume (and had them ready to go in the closet!). But, due to some unplanned toddler meltdowns that occurred earlier that morning, I made the executive decision to skip all of that. ;) Despite the cake/costume/meltdown fiascos, the party was great because the kids had FUN (and that’s all that matters).
Enjoy some of the pictures/videos from the big day!

Still can’t believe I can now say I have two 2-year-olds—YAY, we survived! Now it’s time to enjoy the (hopefully not so terrible) twos… until it’s time to become “threenagers” that is. ;)
