Here’s Why I Put My Dog in Diapers

Here’s Why I Put My Dog in Diapers

Thank you Hartz® for sponsoring this post. Hartz Dog Diapers and Male Wraps provide superior comfort and fit for leak-proof protection!

I vividly remember the first time my motherly “freak out mode” was activated. We’ve all been there at one point or another. You know, that moment where you look at your children and see them doing something potentially horrific right before your very own eyes? The first time this happened to me was when my twins, Ames and Joules, were infants learning to crawl.

I was busy in the kitchen when I suddenly realized the room was silent and my twins were not where I had left them. I started darting around the house looking (and listening) for them. Finally, I found them quietly sitting together on the dining room rug—both looking down at something that had to be rather magical, as it clearly had their undivided attention. When I bent down to open their hands to see what they had found, I SCREAMED.

They were playing with FECES. Yes, they were actually *rolling* it around in their curious little hands!! And I know you’re now wondering, “Whose dirty accident were they playing with? The dog’s or their own?” Well, at the time I assumed it had rolled out of one of the twins’ diapers, but now--in hindsight--I can’t be so sure of that.

Pearl is my very sassy 13-year-old Yorkie Poo (yeah, I’ll let that “poo” part sink in for you). She’s now becoming senile, has cataracts, suffers from arthritis, and growls with every breath. Along with her old age, she started displaying worsening incontinence over the past 1.5 years. She now cannot hold her bladder for more than a couple of hours at a time during the day. We tried training pads on the floor, but they were met with noncompliance from Pearl. From my dining room to my bedroom to the twins’ nursery, I began to find little “presents” on a daily basis—all of which required me to scrub, disinfect, and stress over the “what if my twins had touched this” scenario in my head. The stains were getting out of control! And I would be mortified if I ever found my kids playing with another mess like that again.

So, as my luck would have it, literally as soon as I started potty training my twins this past month to get them OUT of diapers, I then put my dog IN diapers. Ironic, huh? However, I’m really glad I did it.  I turned to Hartz® Dog Diapers to give Pearl the protection she clearly needs. They are especially useful when I work long shifts at the hospital or if I leave the house for any period of time. She sports them around the house with a happy tail wagging through (and a happy mom that’s no longer worrying about what the kids might find). And, well, she just looks SO dang cute in them! These disposable diapers can be worn by both male and female dogs, can accommodate both urine and feces, and are actually quite similar to human diapers with the exception of a tail hole.

I am RELIEVED to announce that since using the leak-proof Hartz® Dog Diapers on Pearl, there have been no more unexpected dog accidents around our house. These dog diapers are designed to provide a customized, stretchable fit without sticking to fur. They also offer up to 6 hours of protection through FlashDry® Gel technology that turns the urine into gel. If you have a fur baby that’s having accidents from puppy mistakes, urinating from excitement, undergoing surgery recovery, or becoming senile like Pearl, then Hartz® Dog Diapers are an excellent solution. You can find them online here where your fur baby can even pick from two fun prints.

While diapers may not be fully out of our lives, dog accidents sure are! Thank you, Hartz® Dog Diapers, for supporting pets from puppyhood through their senior years, making it easier to be the best dog parent possible. My floors and I both appreciate it! ;)
